Dublin History Tour

Duration: 2.5hrs

From the Viking foundations to the Easter Rising, see how the city of Dublin developed into the modern city that we love today.

Beginning at Dublin Castle, we will explore the Viking foundations of the city as well as the arrival of the Normans in 1169. Discover how Dublin got its name in the Castle Gardens, before reaching the heart of medieval Dublin at Christchurch Cathedral.

Hear the tales of the city's most beloved street characters, from 'The Man on the Bridge' to Thomas 'Bang Bang' Dudley.

The tour will finish at the General Post Office with the events of Easter 1916 and the proclamation of the Irish Republic.

O'Connell Monument & O'Connell Bridge - The Liberator, Daniel O'Connell achieved Catholic Emancipation in 1829. A life long pacifist, his monument is covered by the scars of revolution.
The Spire of Light - On the site once occupied by Horatio Nelson before he was blown up in 1966, the Spire was made to celebrate the Miliennium in 2000 (even thought it wasn't finished until 2003).
GPO - The General Post Office - From outside the GPO on April 24th 1916 Patrick Pearse declared that Ireland was now a free and independent Republic in arms. The week that unfolded would change Ireland forever.
